“HE WAS SMART AND FUNNY AND WILL BE MISSED DEARLY BY HIS MOM AND ME”
Parents Devastated After Their Young Son with Spinal Muscle Atrophy is Denied Ivermectin, Vitamins, and Monoclonal Antibodies
He was sick starting around December 4 with Covid with very mild symptoms. Around December 6, he requested to go to the emergency room due to rib pains. The emergency room at Scottish Rite Children’s Health Care of Atlanta is where we found out he had Covid. Once the hospital discovered he had Covid, they told us to go home. They did not offer us antibodies even though the hospital knows his medical history and knew of his underlying condition.
Remdesivir Only
The next day on December 7, my son said he was having trouble breathing and wanted to go back to the hospital. When we got to the hospital, I was told the treatment would be Remdesivir. I denied Remdesivir because of the side effects and the lack of data showing it works and requested for Ivermectin. We were denied Ivermectin and were told there was no supporting data for it. I challenged the doctors and said, “Is there data supporting Remdesivir? I was told there was none and asked if there is no data on Remdesivir, why can’t we use Ivermectin?” I was told it was not FDA approved.
Refused Life-Saving Treatments
I requested monoclonal antibodies but was told it was only for outpatients, which is frustrating because I took him the day before and they discharged us with nothing. I also requested Vitamins C, D, and Zinc but was told the doctors had to reach out to disease and infection experts first. I ended up reaching out to a doctor in Texas who prescribed Ivermectin for my son and he also sent his protocol to me. Even with the prescription and protocol, I was still denied the use of Ivermectin for my son.
While waiting for the prescription, my son’s condition worsened and they had to intubate him. During intubation, his blood ended up getting infected with bacteria. During his last hours on earth, the doctors finally gave my son Ivermectin and vitamins but it was too late and he passed shortly after on December 8. They also did not provide any nutrition during his stay and he was so hungry before he passed.
A Life Thrown Away
“He was our only son and has been a fighter his whole life.”
He impacted our lives so greatly. He was very special to his mom and me. He was our only son and has been a fighter his whole life. He was born with Spinal Muscle Atrophy (SMA) and we did everything to better his life. From surgeries to getting spinal injections to help boost his strength. He took all of his surgeries and treatments like a champ and never complained. He touched many lives, about 100 hundred people showed up at his funeral to honor him.
He was smart and funny and will be missed dearly by his mom and me. I’m just so sad that after all the surgeries and treatment he went through his entire life, it was all thrown away by the doctors and hospitals.
